Match Review: Manchester United 2-2 Sevilla
Two own goals and a collection of bad injuries saw United's early 2 nil lead turn into a disappointing draw at home to the Spanish side.
United was almost off to the perfect start with Sancho hitting the net within the first thirty seconds but was just offside. A poor run from Sancho as he has looking across the Sevilla backline and should have timed his run better.
However it didn't take long until the breakthrough as Marcel Sabitzer kept his goalscoring form going as he made a brilliantly timed run through the middle & was found by a lovely through ball from Bruno Fernandes.
United kept the pressure on Sevilla in the second half and it was Sabitzer once again who found the net for the home side after Anthony Martial leading a break and being composed on the ball long enough to find Sabitzer through the middle once again.
If the first half is exactly what ten Hag wanted from his home side the second half was anything but.
United saw injuries to both centre halves as Varane was replaced at half time by Harry Maguire but more worryingly was the sight of Lisandro Martinez going down without a challenge. The Argentine was carried off the pitch by his countrymen from Sevilla before stretchered down the touchline with what's suspected to be an metatarsal injury.
It went from bad to worse as Malacia inexcusably let the ball run across his body only to be kept in by Sevilla skipper & former Man City winger, Jesus Navas, & deflect in off the Dutch defender.
If I hadn't already left after the Malacia own goal thinking surely United had secured a 2-1 win then I would've had to have witness yet another calamity of errors. None other than Maguire to be in the way to deflect yet another Sevilla effort into De Gea's goal.
Sevilla's second & also United defences' second saw the game end all square but with the injuries to Varane & Martinez combined with Bruno Fernandes' suspension sees United face a tough challenge to progress to the Semi Final at The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.
